The Waldensian people struggle to survive the onslaught of soldiers, while they continue in their villages. Their youth in the meanwhile are trained to leave for foreign countries to spread their seeds of reformation. Pietro at 24 years and his friends are trained as doctors at the top university in Florence and now Pietro is offered a position as head of medicine.

But soon after arriving in Florence, he falls in with old school buddies who themselves have become Generals and Dukes belonging to the very elite Medici family of the glitzy town. Pietro catches the eye of the Pope. He is watched but the Pope can do nothing while Pietro is under the protection of the Duke. Then Pietro goes to Rome for his friends wedding.
